Norwegian Emergency Medical Team (NOR EMT)

The Norwegian Emergency Medical Team (NOR EMT) is a concept that was established in collaboration with the Norwegian Directorate of Health, and has been operational since 2018.

NOR EMT satisfies the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the EU's approval schemes for Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) and is classified as EMT type 1 mobile and fixed. NOR EMT is registered as a capacity in the EU's civil preparedness scheme.

The concept will deliver services such as triage (sorting of patients by degree of injury), stabilization of unstable patients and primary care. In addition, there is the transfer and transport of patients to local hospitals or field hospitals.

The teams, normally consisting of 20-25 people, are put together from a pool of doctors, nurses and technical support personnel in various occupational groups, bringing with them a field clinic with tent solutions.

Since 2019, NOR EMT has been deployed four times - to Samoa, Italy, Greece and Haiti.
