On behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (JD), the DSB contributes to safeguarding Norwegian interests and obligations in the area of societal security in international cooperation bodies, with particular emphasis on the work that is ongoing in the EU, NATO, the UN, the Baltic Sea cooperation and the Nordic countries.
DSB also contributes to the development of resilience, civil preparedness and civil-military cooperation through NATO's civil preparedness work.
EU Civil Preparedness mechanism
DSB manages Norway's participation in the EU's Civil Preparedness mechanism (UCPM) on behalf of the Ministry of Civil Protection. We work to ensure that the emergency preparedness capacities developed within the framework of the mechanism can also meet future Norwegian needs, and ensure that relevant Norwegian actors are well informed about the opportunities that lie in the mechanism.
Point of contact for international events
DSB is the point of contact with the EU's, the UN's, and NATO's civilian crisis management mechanisms on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Through the contact point function, the DSB ensures effective and timely Norwegian assistance to international events, and good use of Norwegian aid funds.
By virtue of the DSB's coordination role, we will ensure interaction with relevant agencies in the event of international incidents, and in the event of national incidents in need of international assistance. DSB also administers international humanitarian concepts for operational humanitarian efforts.
