Ensure adequate notification
Around 500,000 Norwegians sleep every night without the possibility of being alerted in the event of a fire. Either because they don't have a smoke detector that works, or because it's placed so they can't hear it. In the event of a house fire, you have a few minutes to get out. Therefore, place smoke detectors so that you hear it as soon as they start beeping.
Meet the requirements for fire alarms
All homes must have a fire alarm system or smoke detectors. You must have at least one smoke detector on each floor. They must be placed so that they can detect and warn of fires in the kitchen, in the living room, the zone outside bedrooms and in the zone outside the technical room. The alarm must be able to be heard clearly in living rooms and bedrooms, even when the door between the rooms is closed.
Have smoke detectors in bedrooms
If a fire starts in a bedroom, it can take a long time for an out-of-room smoke detector to react. That's why you should have smoke detectors in bedrooms.
Connecting the smoke detectors together
More smoke detectors provide increased security. If you have a home with many rooms or several floors, you should also connect the smoke detectors together (connect in series). This works so that when a smoke detector goes off somewhere, all the smoke detectors go off at the same time. This can give you valuable time to evacuate, for example if a fire starts in the basement and you sleep on the second floor.
