All textiles can burn, but the properties are very different. For example, do you know why you should never wear acrylic clothing near a campfire?
If you are going to buy clothes for children, you should pay special attention to the product's flammability. Ask the staff where you shop, or check the labelling yourself.
Structure is important
The structure of the fabric is crucial to how the fabric burns. Thin and light textiles that let in a lot of air ignite and burn quickly. Fabrics that have a fluffy, rough, or porous surface are more flammable than fabrics with a smooth and dense surface.
Airy clothes burn quickly
Large, flowing clothes come into contact with flames more easily than tight-fitting clothes. Particularly vulnerable are wide sleeves, dresses with a wide width and thin, flowing scarves. Such clothes also burn faster than tight-fitting garments because there is more air available. Keep this in mind when buying costumes for children.
