Safe use of gas stoves

Portable gas stoves can be a good alternative heat source, but must be used correctly. Here are some important rules to remember for the safe use of portable gas stoves.

Remember to ventilate well

Portable gas stoves produce heat by burning propane and oxygen from the surrounding air. This produces carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapour. Portable gas stoves do not have an exhaust to the open air, so the carbon dioxide will remain inside and make the air gradually deteriorate. If you are going to use a portable gas stove, you must therefore remember to have good ventilation so that the bad air is replaced. Also, never use such heaters in small rooms or for long periods of time.

Beware of carbon monoxide

If the gas stove does not burn as it should, carbon monoxide can occur, which in turn can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. This can happen if the gas stove is used incorrectly or there is a fault with the equipment. If gas stoves work properly and are used correctly, this danger is not great.

Has security features

Portable gas stoves must have safety features. It is most common for such devices to have tip-over protection and a fuse that turns off the gas if the CO2 level or carbon monoxide level becomes too high. Note that other appliances that are not intended for indoor heating do not normally have these safety features. Examples of this can be gas burners, primuses and patio heaters.

Avoid fire

Portable gas stoves are very efficient and produce a lot of heat. Therefore, make sure that there is a good distance to flammable materials so that they do not catch fire.
