The Norwegian Board of Health Supervision took the initiative with the Ministry of Justice and the Police about a possible joint project for the replacement of the radio systems in the emergency and emergency services
1998-2001 Study work on a common radio connection for the emergency and emergency services
2001-2003 Pilot project to test digital communication solution (Trondheim)
2002-2004 Project preparation, determination of user requirements and technical requirements
December 2004 Storting Resolution on the Procurement of Tenders and Entering into Contracts, Budget Recommendation S. no. 4 (2004-2005), cf. St.prp. no. 1 Appendix no. 3 (2004-2005). It was decided that the development would take place in two stages, with an evaluation and a new parliamentary consideration between the construction stages
2004-2006 Quotation gathering, tender evaluation, negotiations
December 2006 Storting resolution on the conclusion of contracts and initiation of stage 1, Recommendation to the Storting. S. no. 104 (2006-2007), cf. St.prp. no. 30 (2006-2007)
December 2006 Contract signed with Siemens Norway AS for the development of Nødnett in Norway
2007-2011 Implementation of construction phase 1. This included the police districts of Follo, Romerike, Oslo, Asker and Bærum, Søndre Buskerud and Østfold. The first users started using Nødnett as early as December 2009. By June 2010, all six police districts had started using Nødnett. Fire and health started using the network throughout 2010 and 2011
April 2007

The Norwegian Directorate for Emergency Communications is established to manage the development and manage Nødnett

June 2009

Storting decision authorising the King to increase the cost framework for Stage 1 by up to NOK 1,139 million

August 2010

Official opening of Nødnett in the first construction phase (Fredrikstad)

June 2011

After completing the evaluation, the Storting's decision to initiate emergency network development in the rest of the country was announced. 371 S (2010-2011), cf. Prop 100 S (2010-2011)

September 2015

The development of Nødnett is completed, and the radio network is ready for use throughout the country

December 2015

Official opening of nationwide Nødnett (Kirkenes)
